Teacher Thoughts

Dear Families,
As Thanksgiving approaches, it is time to reflect on all the wonderful people in our lives.  I am especially thankful for this class of unique students that you have entrusted to me this year.  They are curious, playful, humorous, serious 2nd grade students and that has made it a pleasure to come to school each day.  Some are just now beginning to come out of their shells and let me see their true selves.  Some jumped out at me on the very first day of school with a "Hey world! What are we doing today?"  Each and every one of them is precious and very special!  Thank you for allowing me to have a small part in their growing up.  I am looking forward to the rest of our time together.  It will be a fun journey.
                                     Sincerely,
                                            Martha Carlin

Homework Folders

Please remember to check your child's Homework Sheet every night for the following:

1. Record and initial your child's reading nightly.  I will not record the reading if a parent has not initialed it.
2. Remove all papers that have been graded.  Sometimes your child will have drawn a smiley on his own paper.  This means it has been checked.
3. Help your child check to see if all his homework is completed and ready to come back to school.
4. How many drops has your child gotten in his bucket this week?  Check every day to see if a drop was received.
5. Read and discuss the week's Character Words and the Quote of the Week.

6. Help your child make sure he has packed all the things he needs for the next day of school.  This includes a clean bottle of water with a POP-TOP to help avoid spills and a large healthy snack.  Remember, the kids need to be happy with a satisfied tummy and be well hydrated in order to learn well.

I completely forgot to mention my Wish List at Open House.  You can find it on our webpage under Just For Parents.  It is at the bottom of the page.  Click on Class Wish List.  There are many things we can use in our classroom listed there.  Your generosity is appreciated by all of us!

Reminders

Each child should be bringing a Healthy Snack to school everyday.  Our lunch is at 12:21 in the afternoon, but the kids are hungry by 9:00 in the morning.  Also, I encourage all children to bring a bottle of water with a Pop-Top to school everyday.  The Pop-Top is very important so our papers and supplies will be protected from spills.

Be sure to visit our website often.  I am in the process of updating it and will be posting pictures and student work soon.
