This page is for parents to have access to the spelling rules
that have been introduced and are being worked on in class.
These rules will continue to be highlighted in our spelling
lessons throughout the school year. Many of them will
also be taught throughout the elementary grades.

1.
Short vowel sounds are usually spelled with one vowel.
2. New
words can be made by adding suffixes.
3. New
words can be made by putting two or more words together and
replacing a letter or letters with an apostrophe.
4. When
h follows c, s, t, or w,
the combination stands for a new sound.
5. Some
sounds are spelled more than one way.
6. Long
vowel sounds are usually spelled with two vowels. |
